Have a sun-safe summer now, Neutrogena® bares powerful yet skin-friendly sun protection

Summer is a great time for fun! Long sunny days filled with swimming, bicycling, hiking, family vacations, and also warm nights around the campfire!

Protect yourseld and your family from the sun this summer. Don't forget to be kind to your skin. Be careful because summer can also become a great time for sunburns. Keep your body looking fresh by protecting it with a high-quality sunscreen. This summer make putting on sunscreen as habitual.

As yet another hot and humid summer makes its way in, Neutrogena® offers Filipinos a powerfully effective yet skin-friendly way to stay protected from the sun.

The international skin care brand recently unveiled the Ultra Sheer™ sun protection range which features the patented and breakthrough sun protection technology complex Helioplex™.

According to Ella Reyes-David, senior brand manager for Neutrogena Philippines, Helioplex™ was specifically engineered to deliver very high, very broad and photostable UV protection.

“Helioplex™ is photostable which means that it does not lose its effectiveness even with continued exposure to sunlight,” she said. “It also provides the full coverage for UVA/UVB spectrum by harnessing two proven safe and effective sun screens, Avobenzone and Oxybenzone.”

According to the World Health Organization website, UVB is a medium-wavelength type of ultraviolet (UV) radiation which is “very biologically active but cannot penetrate beyond the superficial skin layers.” It causes delayed tanning and burning, and contributes to skin aging and the development of skin cancers.

Filipino-British model, host and blogger Kim Jones was also introduced as the new face of the brand. Jones is a self-confessed Neutrogena® user ever since her growing up years in Australia.
UVA is a “relatively long-wavelength” form of UV radiation that is able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. It causes immediate tanning, and also contributes to skin aging and wrinkling.

Avobenzone is one of the world’s most powerful UVA absorbers today albeit photo-unstable. Oxybenzone is a very good UVB absorber with some UVA absorbency. Together with the Helioplex™ stabilizing technology, these two provide high, broad spectrum and photostable coverage.

Made for summer

Reyes-David noted that Ultra Sheer with Helioplex™ is “ideal for Philippine summers.”

She added, “It can really get very hot and sticky during summer, even if you’re just walking around the metro. Ultra Sheer with Helioplex™ has Dry Touch™ technology which essentially means that it does not leave that sticky white film or residue upon application. It is also water- and sweat-proof, non-greasy, and in fact, leaves a light velvety feel that doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all.”

Ultra Sheer with Helioplex™ has SPF 50 sun protection range, and has specific variants available for face and body.

Skin-friendly protection

Ultra Sheer with Helioplex™ is among the featured products in Neutrogena®’s recently launched campaign called “Healthy is the New Beauty.” The campaign seeks to debunk common beauty myths and promote healthy and skin-friendly ways to be beautiful.

Known for their superb moves and demanding routines, the dancers know too well the importance of being able to move freely without the threat of pain.

A press conference and a throwback concert about Neuropathy Awareness Movement was attended by the officials from Merck Inc. Philippines— the maker of Neurobion, members of the press and bloggers. According to Mr. Louie Roxas, Merck General Manager for Consumer Health said that symptoms of neuropathy which includes numbness and tingling sensations in the arms, legs and hands.

After the presscon, a grand showdown of the greatest dance groups of the early 90′s and 2000 was hosted by dynamic duo of RX 93.1′s The Morning Rush jocks, Chico and Delamar.

Dancing is one of the greatest expressions of the joy of living. Yet, this burst of joyful energy can easily stop when you experience nagging discomforts such as numbness, tingling sensations and body pain.

Pain in the hand, arms and legs caused by nerve damage is called Neuropathy, which can leave you feeling numb, making it difficult for you to function properly. Neuropathy afflicts many Filipinos as early as their mid-20’s, but this condition is often misdiagnosed so they do not receive the proper treatment.
The symptoms of Neuropathy include pangangawit, pamamanhid and tusok-tusok in the hands, arms and legs. The discomfort is often felt in the morning, making it hard to even get out of bed. Such body discomforts can hinder movement, making you feel helpless, out of control and unable to enjoy life.

It is clinically proven that Neurobion® balanced formulation of nerve nourishing vitamins acts at the root of these problems
(Tong HI, Influence of neurotropic vitamins on the nerve conduction velocity. Ann Add Med Singapore, 1980 Jan; 9(1) 65-70). Each tablet of Neurobion® can help maintain healthy nerves, promote efficient nerve function, and reduce pain in the hands, arms and legs caused by Neuropathy.

With the incidence of Neuropathy increasing among Filipinos, the Neuropathy Awareness Movement, spearheaded by Neurobion®, aims to raise awareness on the symptoms and effects of nerve damage. Pangangawit, pamamanhid and tusok-tusok may make it difficult to move, but now you can take action.

With clinically proven Neurobion®, you can help prevent these symptoms so you can move freely, perform at your best, and feel the joy of living again.

Gloc-9’s Myx Music Awards bodes well for mainstream Pinoy music

Gloc-9 won four major awards in the Myx Music Awards 2014 (MMA2014), the most for any artist who was nominated.

But what is more important about this win, is not so much the fact that Gloc-9 won in four out of six categories that he was nominated in, nor that he won four times more than any other artist.

It is that Gloc-9 won it for a song like “Magda.”

The idea of Magdalena is not new. The legend that is Freddie Aguilar introduced us to “Magdalena” in the early 1980’s, a folk song about the plight of a girl who was misunderstood because of the work she was forced into doing. In the Aguilar song, Magdalena is seen as “sawimpalad,” living a wretched life, where her story is one of choicelessness.

Gloc-9’s “Magda” does not point a finger at this woman’s life. The songwriter tells this story with compassion and understanding. Spoken from the perspective of her childhood sweetheart Ernesto, the story is allowed its romance, as it is allowed its heartbreak and undoing. Because Ernesto speaks of Magda, we are given the chance to see Magda as a spit of a girl, as someone who left her childhood behind. In the present she is a woman who is trapped in the cage of her own doing.

The song does not judge Magda, as it does make her human. She is treated as solitary and independent, she is allowed her own individuality, her own voice.

This is Gloc-9 at his most creative, where his decision to use another character to speak about Magda allows for a distance, a non-judgmental stance about her character. It is this creativity that was awarded by the MMA this year. But more importantly what they were honoring was this rapper-songwriter-artist’s decision to tell a story we would rather not hear, of a woman we would rather be blind to.

And this is really the value of Gloc-9’s quadruple wins in this year’s MMAs. He won for the song “Magda” in the context of mainstream original Pilipino music that makes hits out of repetitive lovesongs and novelty. He won for “Magda” at a time when the originality and relevance of original Pilipino pop music is being questioned.

Each MYX Music Award is composed of 60% audience votes and 40% artist or peer votes. And on a year when Gloc-9 wins big for a song like “Magda,” we are being told how the audience and the members of the industry as well, are in fact ready for difficult stories and complex songs.

Winning those four MMAs for “Magda,” as such, is not just a measure of Gloc-9 as artist. It is a measure of what the audience of local music is ready for. One hopes original Pinoy mainstream music heeds this call for creativity and relevance.
