The NSAC has established itself as a legacy platform in discovering and honouring the talents of Filipino student artists, most of whom have become seasoned art masters in their own right: Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera, Jose Joya, Juvenal Sanso, Ang Kiukok, Leeroy New, Ronald Ventura, Rodel Tapaya, and Jun Yee, to name a few.

For this year, Shell NSAC presents the theme “PERSPECTIVE,” and calls for young artists to show their magnificent visions of the future and to share their unique take on how to make the future bright. Today’s new breed of artist-visionaries are encouraged to create masterpieces that showcase the future of the arts or to illustrate magnificent future sustainable cities. The theme also provides an opportunity for student artists to inspire families to shoot for quality of life amidst rapid development, to urge inventors to rise up to the energy challenge, or to open the eyes of a nation to help amidst environmental change.

“Through this year’s NSAC, we continue to discover young artistic talents whose art pieces not only promote our nation’s art and culture but also inspire a bright perspective of the future. We are excited to see how our young student artists paint and create their picture of tomorrow,” says Sankie Simbulan, Pilipinas Shell Social Performance and Social Investment Manager.

In celebration of the new generation of Filipino talent who will ultimately contribute to our country’s artistic legacy, the National Students Art Competition is now opening its doors for submissions in painting and sculpture for this year’s competition.

The Shell NSAC is open to all college students enrolled with at least 12 units in a recognized Philippine school in the school year 2018-2019. LG Honors the Injured Liberators of Marawi with a Donation to the AFP Health Service Command

On its 30th anniversary, LG donates air conditioners, washers, TVs and a refrigerator to benefit Marawi soldier casualties and other injured soldiers at the Victoriano Luna Medical Center.

In the spirit of National Heroes Day, LG Electronics reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to providing assistance to the community with a donation-in-kind to the Victoriano Luna Medical Center (VLMC), a government hospital that provides sanctuary and support to injured soldiers, including those who suffered casualties in the Marawi siege.

In a simple ceremony held on August 29 at the AFP Health Service Command, Mr. Inkwun Heo, Managing Director of LG Philippines, handed over ten (10) 1.5 HP Dual Cool Inverter Split Type Air Purifying Deluxe Airconditioners, two (2) 13kg Inverter Top Load Washing Machines, one (1) 24 cu ft Side by Side Refrigerator and ten (10) 43" Smart TVs to Col. Jeffrey Jake Gallenero, Philippine Army MNSA, Chief of Staff, AFP Health Service Command (AFPHSC). Also present were the chiefs of each operating unit and staff of the AFP Health Service Command.

The project was initiated to ease the recovery of the valiant soldiers at the Orthopedic Heroes Ward who sustained injuries in Marawi and other military efforts. Each airconditioner features an independently working Air Purification mode, assuring that the air the patients breathe is clean even when the unit is switched off, and never stale. LG airconditioners also operate at low sound levels to provide better rest and uninterrupted sleep for these wounded soldiers. Along with the Smart TVs, these airconditioning units will bring comfort to patients and their families at the wards, Officers’ Room, and Isolation and Post-recovery rooms.

Aside from the patients at the Orthopedic Heroes Ward, the hospital staff will also benefit from LG’s donation of washing machines and a refrigerator, which will be placed at the ward comfort rooms and ward pantry, respectively. The Side by Side Refrigerator has multiple cooling air vents that distribute and circulate cool air to every corner of the refrigerator, ensuring that the staff’s and patients’ food are properly cooled and remain fresh, while the 13kg Inverter Top Load Washing Machines have a Turbo Drum feature that enables the most powerful wash and the removal of the toughest hospital stains.

The airconditioners, washing machines and refrigerator are all equipped with the latest inverter technology, ensuring that the medical center enjoys bigger energy savings but with more efficient appliances.

“LG, through its products, is committed to making an everyday difference in the lives of individuals,” says Mr. Heo. “On its 30th anniversary, LG Philippines is honored to support the injured soldiers of Marawi and the Victoriano Luna Medical Center, and we hope that our small gesture will go far in helping these soldiers on their road to recovery.”

BGen Augustus H De Villa, Acting Commander AFP Health Service Command (AFPHSC) expressed his fervent gratitude to LG Electronics. “I, together with the staff of the AFP Health Service Command, would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to LG Philippines. This deed of donation signing is a concrete realization that our soldiers’ efforts are greatly recognized by the people they are serving. May you continue supporting our troops as they protect and secure the sovereignty of our nation.”

Earlier this year, LG donated health kits, comprised of roughly 30,000 personal care products, and 200 computer monitors to 46 public schools in Marawi. These initiatives are part of the company’s goals of promoting products and services that serve the local community. Through its CSR projects, LG will continue to serve the Filipino people by developing—and sharing—technology that cares.

LG Philippines managing director Mr. Inkwun Heo offers praise and appreciation to Corporal Roy Aquino PA who suffered injuries in the Marawi siege. Looking on is LTC Domingo A Chua Jr (MC) PA, Head Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the V Luna Medical Center.

Yellow Cab cooks up a New York State of Mind as they embarks on another gastronomic adventure to delight pizza lovers and even today’s hardest hustlers with the launch of not just one, but five new flavors to join its roster of legendary pizzas.

Aptly called 5 Boroughs Pizza, the relatives of the iconic pizza joint’s all-time bestseller, New York’s Finest brings to the table five unique pizza flavors that capture the essence of each of New York City’s famed boroughs: Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.

“If you love our New York’s Finest, you will definitely enjoy the 5 Boroughs Pizza. Generously topped with edge-to-edge flavors that will represent the diversity of New York, 5 Boroughs is your palatable gateway to the Big Apple,” said Elise Veloso, Senior Brand Manager for Yellow Cab Pizza Co.

Diverse yet totally dynamic, New York’s five boroughs is home to some of the world’s renowned artists, musicians, fashion designers, writers, film makers, and other influential personalities who all have inspiring stories to tell. The distinctive culture, personality, and attitude of each borough are what customers can expect to see, taste, and experience in every bite of the 5 Boroughs Pizza.

Bronx Creamy Mushroom Pizza, Yellow Cab’s first white sauce based pizza brings to fore the intense flavor of the tough and edgy community of the Bronx. This tasty variant is a creamy mix of mushroom, chicken, olives and green bell peppers.

For those craving for something more sophisticated, there’s the Manhattan Steak & Eggs Pizza. Reminiscent of the borough considered as the “center of the universe,” this variant brings together a classy mix of steak strips and eggs doused in steak sauce and topped with onions and green bell peppers.

The hip culture of Brooklyn is captured in a hefty serving of Brooklyn Spicy Seafood Pizza. It is loaded with spicy Jalapeño peppers, shrimps, crabsticks, onions, green bell peppers, tomatoes and capers.

The Queens Oriental Chicken Pizza brings to the palate a unique flavor profile with its’ combination of chicken, mushrooms, onions and pineapple, topped with spring onions and cilantro, with a sweet and tangy Oriental sauce base.

Finally, there’s Staten Island Basil & Ricotta Pizza which features crushed tomatoes topped with three cheeses and basil. This hefty mix is Yellow Cab’s Margherita Pizza with a twist, and is reflective of the more laid-back and chill atmosphere of the suburban community that has been the trademark of Staten Island.

The 5 Boroughs Pizza can be enjoyed in all Yellow Cab branches including Yellow Cab’s newest branch in Paseo De Magallanes beginning September 5, 2018 until January 31, 2019.

These are available for dine-in, takeout and delivery. Best of all, these all-new flavors can be savored at only P499 for regular size pizza, P759 for large, and P999 for the New Yorker size.

Mother Earth’s Top Offenders, Exposed

The Philippines is one of the 17 mega-biodiverse countries in the world, but it is also the world’s third largest contributor to ocean plastic, the country with the second highest death rate in Asia Pacific due to indoor air pollution and third highest death rate due to outdoor air pollution. It is at the top of lists that it shouldn’t be proud of.

What causes pollution in the environment? Here are the top offenders.

Sewage

You probably know that all the things that you flush go to the oceans, right? Excrements, tissues, food, and other things you throw in the drain can become food or death sentence for marine animals. Some of which eventually end up in your meal.

Carbon Monoxide (CO)

In the recent years, the number of cars sold in the Philippines has increased. Automotive vehicles are the major source of carbon monoxide – a type of air pollutant that can kill a person within minutes.

Plastics

Straws, coffee stirrers, soda and water bottles, sachets from instant coffee, shampoo, cooking oil, food seasoning and toothpaste, and other food packaging materials are classified as single-use plastics that poison our lands, waters, and animals.

Sewage, carbon monoxide, and plastics are the top destroyers of our environment, but there is another one more vicious than these three.

Humans.

It is our waste that goes to the oceans. We use the vehicles that pollute the air. We produce, use and mismanage plastics that damage the waters and the lands. We are the cause and we are experiencing its effects. Now, what are we going to do, Juan?

Non-government organizations in the country are already spearheading activities to save our environment, protect our animals and regain what we have lost. Seedling adoption for reforestation, pawikan and giant clam adoption to increase their numbers, and cats and dogs adoption to save them from abusive owners are also some of the activities being done.

Volunteering to these environmental efforts takes only Juan step. Join Juan Earth on September 29, 2018 at Bonifacio High Street Activity Center, 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City and take part in rebuilding and taking care of our environment. Juan Earth is a grassroots effort produced by Write On Track and its dedicated team of community volunteers wanting to educate and empower people to create a healthier and more sustainable world.
