After a hard-fought win at the Red Bull Dance Your Style National Finals last May, Cebuana street dancer Sam Rivera known in battles as ‘Nemesis’, is set to represent the Philippines, showcasing Filipino flair, rhythm, and freestyle creativity at the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2025 World Finals happening on October 11 to 12 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.

The World Stage Awaits

After months of high-energy dance battles across the globe, the world’s best dancers are converging in Los Angeles for the ultimate one-on-one freestyle showdown. Champions from over 50 countries will bring their unique moves, cultural influences, and raw improvisation skills, creating a competition that’s as unpredictable as it is exciting.

The Philippines’ very own Nemesis is more than ready to face off the top dancers from all over the world, proving Filipinos have what it takes to take on the biggest international stage for street dance.

Training for the Battle

After competing as a Red Bull Dance Your Style National Finalist in 2024, Nemesis returned this year stronger than ever, securing the crown at the 2025 National Finals in her hometown Cebu. Since that milestone win, Nemesis has been getting ready, refining her Krump freestyle, endurance, and stage presence to prepare for the world spotlight.

“This year I’m really in it to win, but I also remind myself to have fun on stage when I’m dancing. Just vibe with the music and trust my body’s instincts,” said Nemesis. “I’m the type of freestyle dancer that doesn’t prepare for sets, I just need to condition my body, relying on muscle-memory, as well as drills, also concepts and ideas to generate movements from there.”

The Filipino finalist also shared how mindset is just as important as physical training: “Readying myself mentally and emotionally for the pressure, because LA is where the best dancers are. But I take it as an opportunity to learn from them.

On Nemesis' approach for the World Final, she shared, “My goal is still to just give a good performance. So others will see that ‘Wow! This is what dancers in the Philippines are like!’ It depends on the crowd, but as long as you give a good performance, other people will see that you’re amazing.”

Countdown to the Finals in LA

The Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals will bring together the best of the global street dance scene during the World Finals Week, running from October 7 to 11. The main World Finals competition takes place on October 11 at the Intuit Dome, Los Angeles, where dancers will go head-to-head in freestyle battles, with the twist that the crowd decides who moves forward. Catch the action live on Red bull TV on October 11 at 9 PM (PDT) / October 12 at 12 PM (Philippine time).

With global champions, rising stars, and local heroes in the mix, the competition promises to be an explosive display of creativity and artistry. Only one dancer will walk away as the 2025 Red Bull Dance Your Style World Champion.

15 Years of Solve for Tomorrow: Making a Next-Gen Hero

What started in 2010 as a simple essay contest in the United States has since evolved into a global platform for innovation and impact. Over the past 15 years, Solve for Tomorrow has grown far, becoming a dynamic competition that champions STEM education, fuels creative problem-solving, and equips the next generation of leaders to tackle pressing challenges in their own communities.

In 2013, Samsung expanded the competition to Asia, introducing a team-based format for students. Over time, the program grew to include countries in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. In 2023, Solve for Tomorrow was finally launched in the Philippines.

This year, Samsung is unveiling new global themes: Environmental Sustainability via Technology, which encourages students to harness technology to protect natural resources, promote eco-friendly practices, and build a greener future; and Social Change through Sport and Technology, which focuses on using sports and tech to unite communities, promote inclusivity, and inspire positive change.

Solve for Tomorrow in the Philippines

Samsung Electronics Philippines also introduces a new theme for this year’s Solve for Tomorrow competition: Solving Local Community Problems with AI. The theme highlights how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to develop smart, practical solutions that improve daily life in local communities across the Philippines.

Supported by the Department of Education (DepEd) since its inaugural run in 2023, Solve for Tomorrow has quickly become a leading platform for young innovators from Science High Schools nationwide. In its first year, “Team Intellimeter” from the Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus won first place with a smart electric management system designed to boost energy efficiency and help mitigate climate change.

Second place went to Bansud National High School – Regional Science High School for “Project O.A.S.I.S” — a filtration system that removes oil and microplastics from ocean water. Team TomPost, also from Cagayan Valley Campus, placed third with their “Agricultural Waste Compost Processor”, which transforms tomatoes and other agricultural waste into compost and other usable products.

The 2024 competition continued this momentum. Lipa City Science Integrated National High School claimed first place with “Hi-LoWall”—a solar-powered fog wall that uses rice husk biochar and evaporative cooling to combat rising heat indices.

Philippine Science High School – Main Campus secured second place with “Croprotech”, a modular network that prevents soil degradation and improves land quality. Meanwhile, Calamba City Science Integrated School placed third with “SIMS: Smart Infrastructure Monitoring System”—a tool that uses sound and thermal sensors to monitor structural integrity and enhance public safety during natural disasters.

Shell Mekaniko League 2025 Crowns Shell Advance Masters and Shell Helix Champions National Winners

Shell Pilipinas Corporation has brought the Shell Mekaniko League 2025 to a triumphant close, marking a milestone in the country’s automotive industry. For the first time, motorcycle and car experts came together under one national platform, with more than 2,000 participants from 26 provinces joining Shell’s largest mechanic competition to date.

Charlie Sandoval shines as the 2025 National Champion of the Shell Advance Masters, standing tall at the center of the podium. Flanking him in celebration are Norman Cabal (2nd Place), Joefel Foronda (3rd Place), Joevanne Sayat (4th Place), and Allen Kenneth Rañon (5th Place), representing the country’s finest motorcycle mechanics.

From its kickoff in March to the Grand Finale at Le Pavillon in Pasay City, the Mekaniko League combined high-level competition with practical skills development. At every stage, participants attended Shell-led training sessions and TESDA-certified modules that prepared them for NC I and NC II certifications, strengthening their credentials and expanding livelihood opportunities. Semi-finalists were tested in written exams, parts identification, and live repair challenges that mirror workshop realities. Semi-final winners each received ₱50,000 and advanced to the Grand Finale.

At the Grand Finale, champions from across the country faced off in an electrifying showdown. Mark Anthony Calimag (Quezon City) was crowned the Shell Helix Auto Mekaniko Champions 2025 National Champion, while Charlie Sandoval (Caloocan City) earned the title of Shell Advance Masters 2025 National Champion. Each champion received ₱200,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Malaysia to witness MotoGP, accompanied by other top finalists. The Top 5 car mechanics and Top 3 motorcycle mechanics also earned the chance to join the champions on the MotoGP experience.

Mark Anthony Calimag takes the top spot as the 2025 National Champion of the Shell Helix Auto Mekaniko Champions, joined on the podium by 2nd Place winner R-Jay Alvarez and 3rd Place winner Manny Basong.

“What began in 2024 with a handful of regional runs has grown into a true nationwide movement that celebrates the grit, craftsmanship, and livelihood of Filipino mekanikos,” said Jackie Famorca, Vice President and General Manager for Lubricants at Shell Pilipinas Corporation. “Through the Mekaniko League we combine competition with certification — giving mechanics the recognition and skills that matter on the job.”
