SPARK! is delighted to announce new funding from Sony Music Entertainment Philippines to champion young women’s rights and provide access to free and quality education, improved reproductive health products and services, as well as support for gender sensitive and responsive programs.

As a new beneficiary, SPARK! Philippines will develop an initiative that capitalizes on the power of storytelling through film and music to showcase inspirational narratives of the young women they support. The selected girls will collaborate with a critically acclaimed female filmmaker and Sony Music Philippines artists to produce original short biopics or documentaries featuring impactful musical scores and theme songs. A separate series of short videos will also be made to showcase how Sony Music Philippines artists engage with the young women through their workshops and songwriting and recording sessions.

“In addition to elevating young women and raising awareness for the issues they face, we want to inspire them to be more creative, to dream deeply, and to aspire for more,” said Maica Teves, Executive Director at SPARK! Philippines. “Young women need help with strengthening and amplifying their advocacy efforts, and support from the Sony Music Philippines’s musicians and filmmakers will help them achieve that in a creative way. Through our collaboration with Sony Music’s Global Social Justice Fund, we aim to give our young women a positive platform to showcase their collaboration and develop meaningful stories that shed much-needed light on the pressing issues they face. We want to embed a belief in equal rights and the importance of education at a young age and will work hand-in-hand with Sony Music Entertainment Philippines to realize these goals.”

“We are happy to partner with SPARK! who are impacting the lives of young women across the Philippines,” said Roslyn Pineda, General Manager, Philippines, Sony Music Entertainment. “As a global music company, Sony Music Entertainment is dedicated to empowering and elevating all members of societies where we have a presence. We are committed to bridging gaps in society and look forward to working with SPARK! to unlock the creative potential of young women in the Philippines.”

Established in 2012, SPARK! Philippines is an NGO composed of empowered women committed to the development of women and women’s organizations as full partners in national development. The funding from Sony Music Philippines will help strengthen collaboration and build alliances with people and organizations across various fields and sectors to advance the rights and welfare agenda of young women, encourage young women to be agents of change from a young age by actively participating in social development programs and community projects, claiming their right to engage in spaces of policy discussion, and support men in allyship and activism by joining activities that advance gender equality.

SPARK! Philippines is the latest recipient announced in Asia from Sony Music Group’s Global Social Justice Fund. Launched in 2020, the Fund supports social justice and anti-racist initiatives around the world. Two years on, the Fund has pledged 71% of the total $100 Million USD fund to more than 400 community organizations worldwide, covering areas including civic engagement, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and education.

Home Credit kicks off Wais sa Home roadshow in Iloilo City

Wais sa Home aims to empower Filipinos to be wiser about their finances aligned with the company’s mission to be every Filipino’s ally in life

Iloilo City, Philippines. October 10, 2022— As part of the company’s commitment to empowering more Filipinos, the country’s leading consumer finance company Home Credit Philippines (HCPH), through its Iloilo District Sales Office, kicked off its national community-based Financial Literacy program, Wais sa Home, last October 6 to 8, 2022, in Iloilo City.

Wais sa Home is the flagship financial literacy program of Home Credit Philippines that aims to drive financial inclusion and raise financial literacy awareness among Filipinos. Through various FL programs and activities, this initiative aims to educate communities on the basics of budgeting and saving, how to use digital tools to manage finances, and how to protect oneself from fraud and scams.

“As a trusted ally of Filipinos, we at Home Credit are committed not only to providing them assistance with their financial needs but also helping them choose sound decisions in managing their hard-earned money and keeping their overall financial health. Through Wais sa Home, we at Home Credit are one with the government and our regulators in promoting and creating a financially inclusive Philippines,” said Ken Lerona, HCPH’s Head of PR.

Wais with Home Credit

To kick-start the series of financial literacy activities in Iloilo City, Home Credit organized Wais sa Barangay and Wais na OFW Families, two of the FL activities of Home Credit for Iloilo.

Over 50 OFW families were the attendees of the two-day Financial Management Seminar conducted in partnership with the Iloilo PESO Office and different government agencies last October 6 to 7, 2022.

Meanwhile, almost 200 residents of San Isidro in Jaro and Nabitasan in Lapaz, Iloilo City attended the Wais sa Barangay program last October 8, 2022.

“Home Credit believes that promoting good financial habits and financial literacy in the communities is an important milestone in our mission to be every Filipino’s ally as they build their lives and dreams,” said Wade Eusores, HCPH’s Corporate Communications Manager.

Home Credit’s “Wais sa Home” Iloilo FL Roadshow Barangay” is mounted in collaboration with the different community leaders and stakeholders in every community to ensure that the topics are attuned to the needs of the communities, and that the participants are those who need the program the most.

“We hope that our participants not only become financially wiser through this program but equally, we hope that they take these lessons to heart and share it with their families, neighbors, and friends,” said Anne Urbano, HCPH’s Regional Sales Manager for Western Visayas.

A Month-Long FL Roadshow

Home Credit will be rolling out a series of financial literacy programs in Iloilo City this month of October targeting different audiences and communities. These will be organized in partnership with the local government unit and other local organizations in Iloilo City.

Among the programs of Home Credit’s Wais sa Home in Iloilo City are financial literacy talk with OFW Families, Wais sa Nation: Iloilo Caravan, Wais Campus: UI PHINMA FL Workshop for students, Iloilo esports Community Partnership, and Iloilo Pride Pyesta Participation.

“We want to bring our financial literacy programs to the provinces where there are bigger opportunities to promote financial education. Through Wais sa Home, we hope to add value to the lives of the Filipino consumers we serve,” shared Russel Patina, HCPH’s Public Relations Manager.

Home Credit Philippines is a financing company duly licensed and supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). To learn more about the latest updates from Home Credit Philippines, visit their official website www.homecredit.ph. Bayad and DepEd, Empowering Filipino Youth Through Financial Literacy

Based on the 2021 Financial Inclusion Survey by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the number of Filipino adults without savings increased to 63% from 47% in 2019, partly attributed to the global health crisis that may have reduced household income or increased medical expenses.

The BSP added that the percentage of savers significantly declined, particularly among adults in the National Capital Region, South Luzon, and Visayas regions. “The lower incidence of savings in 2021 was recorded across geographical areas except in Mindanao, which registered an increase and surpassed all areas,” the report said.

It is in this light that Bayad, formerly known as Bayad Center -- the pioneer and industry-leader in bill payments, and the Department of Education (DepEd), advocating a financial mindset that everything must be economically and sufficiently enough, launched a comprehensive school program aptly called “Bayad: Sapat Dapat”. This advocacy reinforces the importance of financial literacy and management in the formation years of Filipino students.

Culminating the 5-year program was the recently concluded Sapat Dapat Quizbee on Financial Literacy, where majority of the secondary public and private schools in all divisions of Region 7 and Region 4A participated. The eliminations started last February 2022, with remaining 45 students competing for the finals, held virtually last September 8, 2022 under the supervision of DepEd, Bayad, and Marylindbert International, Inc.

After a series of case studies and questions on financial management, savings, and priority-setting, the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy from Bogo Cebu emerged as this year’s Quizbee Champion, represented by its Grade 9 student, Angel L. Mollona and coach Natasha Jane Y. Estrera.

(“Participating in the Sapat Dapat Quiz Bee on Financial Literacy gives us students a good grasp on basic principles and ideas on how to manage our money wisely, and at the same time prepares us for a future where these lessons can be applied when we build our own families and career.”)

Joining Angel in the roster of financial literacy champions are 2nd place winner - Maria Theofannie P. Alviola of Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School, 3rd place winner - Marcus L. Cionello Jr. of Mabolo National High School, 4th place winner – Ivan C. Bunaos of Babag National High School, and 5th place winner - Mariel Miculob of Tabalong National High School.

Cebu City Education Program Supervisor and School Governance Operations Division OIC Chief, Lyra L. Illaga shares, “We are grateful for Bayad and Marylindbert International for inviting us to be a part of the Sapat Dapat Comprehensive School Program Financial Literacy Quiz Bee. We are looking forward for a continuous collaboration as we open more doors in the development of our learners. Essentially, financial education is key in attaining youth empowerment and economic well-being, para sa bata para sa bayan.”

Bayad and DepEd’s Sapat Dapat Comprehensive School Program is on its 3rd year of molding future financial leaders in the Grades 9 to 12 students of 40 adopted schools in Regions 7 and 4A.

“We envision the Sapat Dapat program as a tool that will equip our students with the proper knowledge on budgeting and money matters, as these will significantly help in their financial decisions later on. By teaching both children and adults the value of financial literacy, we become instrumental in empowering Filipinos and bringing the nation’s financial awareness to the next level. This is the bigger picture. This is what we stand for,” shares Mr. Wendell P. Labre, Bayad’s AVP and Head for Corporate Branding & Marketing Services.

Bayad Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, Dennis S. Gatuslao added, “We at Bayad recognize the role of the youth as catalysts for our economic resiliency. We will continue to strengthen our partnership with the Department of Education as we aim to broaden the provision of relevant and inclusive financial education. “

Bayad President and CEO, Lawrence Y. Ferrer also shared, “All of our efforts in Bayad are directed towards elevating the standard of living of our kababayans. We continue to push forward our cause through the Sapat Dapat Comprehensive School Program, understanding that our youth are the key drivers in nurturing a sound financial culture. We are thankful to the Department of Education for giving us the opportunity to carry on this initiative and give back to the communities that we serve.”
