Buy and Give through Caritas Manila’s Expo

This coming November 29 till December 1, Caritas Manila will hold its anniversary expo in the activity center of Ayala Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

Buy and Give through Caritas Manila’s Expo at the Trinoma as they celebrates 60 Years of Living Faith in its Social Mission. This year’s anniversary expo will feature and showcase products made by social entrepreneurs via Caritas Manila’s own social enterprise: Caritas Margins and Segunda Mana.
This event aims to raise funds to help sustain the pro-poor programs of Caritas Manila.

The products sold in the BUY and GIVE EXPO are made by the poor communities and from the marginalized sector currently being supported by Caritas Manila.

Art pieces are made by residents from National Bilibid Prison, gift items, accessories, and personal care products made by urban poor families, pre-loved items and inventories from our benefactors and corporate partners are just some of the products showcased in this Expo.

This is dubbed as BUY and GIVE because for every product you BUY, you actually GIVE to someone in need.

These are the 3 ways:

1st – the item one buys gives income to the producer of the product from the poor community/marginalized sector;

2nd – part of the revenues will be plowed back to help sustain Caritas Manila’s pro-poor programs, specifically on Skills and Livelihood Training and Youth Servant Leadership and Education Programs; and

3rd – buying the product is giving to oneself or for someone else to appreciate.

Supporting important causes can be easy to forget amid the hustle and bustle of shopping during the holiday season. Here's an easy way to give back to those in need while you find the gifts you need.

Come and join Caritas Manila’s BUY & GIVE EXPO on  you can find things at reasonable prices as helping uplift other peoples’ lives.
Caritas Manila is the leading social arm of the Archdiocese of Manila and the integrator of the Church social services and development in Metro Manila.

Segunda Mana, a special Donation-in-kind program of Caritas Manila where it promotes the joy of giving to help those who are in need by donating items that are no longer needed used or unused, have too much of or about to throw away which have value and may be sold. It also promotes Reducing, Re-Using, and Recycling.

Caritas Margins, “Margins” from the word “marginalized”, refers to groups who are neglected, deprived and ignored and these are people who are poor.

Caritas Margin is a Skills Training Program of Caritas Manila which conducts various trainings such as: Crafting fashion accessories, production of herbal soaps, perfume, medicinal ointments and homecare products and food processing & commercial cooking.

One great Saturday I was in Caritas Manila, Pandacan attending briefing about Caritas Manila Social Development Programs. For the past years, I have been a part of Caritas Manila advocacies. At present, I felt so great that I am invited to see the Caritas Manila/s Segunda Mana's Store, warehouse and Caritas Margins production facilities.

Caritas Manila executive director Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual shared us the mission and vision of the Caritas Manila.
Caritas Manila's mission is to empower the poor towards total human development, build caring and sharing communities among the youth and families and enable the growth and development of servant leadership. Caritas Manila have developmental programs for the sectors of education, preventive health, and livelihood to help the poor, and continuously strive to help the poor help themselves.

Caritas Manila bring people together with the hearts of service, caring and sharing. The Archdiocese organized a social welfare for uplifting the spirit and soul of unfortunate members in community for food, clothing and medicines for distribution among our poor brethren, and the education of their children.

I remember things about Jesus, as He had a special sense of mission to poor. And Mother Teresa's great passion for poor came from her great passion for Jesus. I believe that Jesus Christ set an example for us to walk on, "Love your neighbor" when asked to define neighbor as He expanded to anyone who is in need.

This is a chance for you to give back to your community in a way that's meaningful to you. Your heart and innovative spirit needed to make the world a better place.

As simply you can be part of their mission. For donations inquiry, you can contact Caritas Segunda Mana via: segundamana@caritasmanila.org.ph and cm@caritasmanila.org.ph and Tel No: 564-0205, 562-0020 to 25 or Text: 09298343857

Five Awardees take center stage in the 55th Ramon Magsaysay Awards Ceremonies

THREE individuals and two organizations who share the virtue of selflessness in working for their people’s welfare received the 2013 Ramon Magsaysay Awards in a formal presentation ceremony at the CCP Main Theater last August 31.
This year’s awardees come from diverse cultures and regions—Lahpai Seng Raw from Myanmar, Habiba Sarabi from Afghanistan, Ernesto Domingo from the Philippines, Shakti Samuha from Nepal, and the Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) or Corruption Eradication Commission from Indonesia.
Hon. Maria Lourdes Sereno, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, was the guest of honor during the ceremony. She lead the conferment of the Award certificates and medallions to the five awardees. A video presentation commemorating the 55th Anniversary of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation was ushered during the proceedings.
The Magsaysay Awardees had a full schedule of activities prior to the Awards. They delivered public lectures and met with NGOs, academic institutions, development organizations, and local government executives. This allowed the awardees to share with a wide and diverse audience the remarkable work they are doing.
The Magsaysay Award was established in 1957 to honor the spirit of greatness and selfless leadership manifested in the extraordinary lives and work of the laureates— individuals and organizations who are dubbed as Asia’s heroes of change. President Ramon Magsaysay, whose life and leadership inspired the creation of the Award, now regarded as Asia’s premier prize and the region’s highest honor.

"Giving Hope, Sharing Smiles", Lamoiyan kicks off advocacy program to mark 25 years in business

Filipino-owned Lamoiyan Corporation kicks off advocacy program to mark 25 years in business.
Dubbed “Project Silver” as part of its 25th anniversary celebration with the theme
“Giving Hope, Sharing Smiles.”

Last March 3 through Lamoiyan Corporation’s community project, “Adopt-a-Barangay,” hundreds of residents of Barangay 73 at the PNR Compound in Caloocan City received free medical and dental services which aims to increase the awareness in promoting proper oral care and in treating head lice.

“Starting this month, Lamoiyan Corporation is celebrating its 25th year in the business. Project Silver is actually one way of thanking our consumers for all the years they have been supporting our company. So it is but right that we do a medical-dental mission like this to really give back to them what we have received for the past years,” Lamoiyan Corporation Assistant Vice President for New Business Development Peter Paul Ang said in his message.

During the event held at the community's covered court, residents participated in the oral health education, diet counseling, lecture on head lice and tooth brushing drill led by teams from both Lamoiyan Corporation and the Kalookan City Dental Society.

The people also benefited with free distribution of toothbrush and toothpaste, fluoride application, tooth extraction, and anti-lice treatment and shampoo.

Based on the survey of the Department of Education, toothache and lice infestation are among the top three reasons why public school children absent themselves from their classes mainly because of ignorance or inability to buy toothpaste or anti-lice shampoo.

Given that these problems still exist, Lamoiyan Corporation, according to Ang, is firm in its resolve to find a solution to these problems through its very own products—the first Filipino-made toothpaste Hapee  and Licealiz shampoo—which are made affordable yet world class in quality.

Edgar Erice, Vice Mayor Caloocan City (5th from right); and James Lim, Customer Development Officer, Lamoiyan Corporation (6th from right).

“We are very thankful to Lamoiyan Corporation for choosing our community as one of the beneficiaries for their anniversary outreach campaign. It's really a big help for my constituents. We are very happy indeed,” Brgy. 73 Chairman Joven Llena said.

For its part, as a trade partner of Lamoiyan Corporation and in helping select the community to adopt for Project Silver in their area of distribution, Fast Trax Corporation (FTC) Supervisor Hans Castro stressed:

“We are also happy  to be part of this very meaningful and noble project. It’s really an honor for us to be a partner of Lamoiyan Corporation in its continued commitment of serving the Filipino people.”

FTC, being the exclusive distributor of Lamoiyan products in Metro Manila, and other 17 regional trade partners of the toothpaste manufacturer, are set to conduct other medical-dental missions in 24 more communities nationwide until June of this year.

“We are just beginning with a single step. Hopefully with this project, more and more people will become aware of proper hygiene, be it keeping their teeth or hair clean,” Ang said.
