Holiday Shopping Made Easy!

Here’s why you need to consider 0% interest installment deals to avoid the holiday rush stress

The holiday season is a joyful time, but it can also be filled with stress, especially when thinking of gift ideas for your loved ones and doing your holiday shopping. The pressure to find the perfect gifts, navigate crowded stores, and manage your budget can turn the season into a headache.

With some planning, you can enjoy a stress-free holiday shopping experience, discover exciting gift ideas, and even consider convenient payment options to make the most of your budget. These five Wais Tips shared by Home Credit, the country’s leading consumer finance company, can help you breeze through the process of buying presents and avoid the hassle of the holiday rush!

Make a list.

Santa is not the only one who benefits from making a list! Create a detailed shopping list that includes the names of the people you want to give gifts to, your gift ideas for each of them, and the shops where you can find those items. Having a list will keep you organized, help you stay on track, and reduce the likelihood of forgetting anyone or anything.

Set a budget.

Before you start shopping, establish a clear and realistic budget for your holiday spending. Check your list and allocate a specific amount for each person. Sticking to your budget will help you avoid overspending and refrain from experiencing financial strain during the holiday season.

Start early.

The early bird gets the stress-free shopping experience! Don't wait until the last minute to start your holiday gift shopping, and purchase gifts well in advance of the holidays. Starting early allows you to take advantage of sales and discounts, avoid the holiday rush, and ensures that you have plenty of time to find the perfect gifts without feeling rushed or pressured.

Explore installment deals.

By choosing installment plans, you can spread the cost of your purchases over manageable periods, keeping your finances in check during the holiday season.

Home Credit also has your back beyond gift shopping. If unexpected bills or the need for extra holiday funds arise, Home Credit offers Qwarta and Cash Loan* to help you navigate the financial challenges seamlessly. With these alternative payment options, you can enjoy the holiday season while having the financial freedom to purchase what you need and experience what you want at your own pace.

Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow invites STEM students to propose tech solutions for social impact

Launched for the first time in the Philippines, Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow aims to unleash the creativity and potential of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students in discovering social solutions with the use of technology. In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Solve for Tomorrow aims to provide opportunities for top students to transform emerging ideas into action and unlock their full potential as future leaders. This global program has successfully helped over 2 million people and has reached beyond the boundaries of 50 other countries, including the Philippines, as the latest addition this 2023.

Samsung is inviting public science high school students from Grades 8 to 10 to showcase their groundbreaking ideas that can positively impact communities and create a better tomorrow. Participating schools can form teams with a maximum of four (4) students and one (1) faculty advisor for every entry. There will be no limit to how many teams can join per school.

The team should identify a local community or an environmental sustainability problem and provide a design proposal outlining sustainable and feasible solutions with the help of technology. The proposal can be in a slide presentation format (5 slides maximum) or a Word document (2,500 words maximum). After completing the proposal, teams must submit their entry via the Solve for Tomorrow registration site before or on November 3, 2023.

Ten shortlisted teams will have a chance to be coached by Samsung experts, and present their proposals to an esteemed board of judges. The Grand Prize winner will receive Samsung devices worth up to ₱650,000 for their school, ₱190,000 worth of Samsung devices for the team and their teacher adviser, ₱100,000 cash prize for team members, and P 20,000 cash prize for faculty adviser. Full mechanics and prizes can be found on the official website.

Here are just some of the solutions developed by winners of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow from around the world.

Looking for a study buddy? TAZ’s App got your back

Indeed, wherever young innovators triumph, each convenes to develop solutions for a better tomorrow.  TAZ, the winning team from Malaysia in 2021, from St. Francis Institution, Malacca, developed an app that helps Malaysian students around the country to connect with study buddies who share similar interests and help them acquire access to a variety of learning materials nationwide and equip their peers with time management tips.

PathFinder System:  Key to safer spaces in schools

A gunshot detection and evacuation system was one of the 2022 Solve for Tomorrow’s grand prize winners in the United States. Designed by students from Porter High School, Texas, the PathFinder system addresses crowd stampedes caused by a threat of an active shooter. It aims to ensure students' safety inside their school and ease the fear of school shootings. It essentially eradicates false alarms and its LED lights change color to indicate the proximity of danger while pointing out the safest way out. It was one of the smartest prototypes proposed in the competition, as it is highly functional and sustainable.

Support athletes during competitions with the Human Health Band

With an innovation that aimed to assist athletes on their road to victory, Strawberry Crest High School from Dover, Florida, was awarded one of the four grand-winners for Solve for Tomorrow 2023. With a Human Health Band designed to monitor an athlete’s body temperature and prevent heat-related deaths,  the team conducted thorough research on making this project feasible and sustainable to save lives using recycled fabrics and developed software.

Join Samsung in its mission to help build a better future and be part of the country’s very first Solve for Tomorrow competition. The deadline for submission is November 03, 2023. Interested applicants can learn more and submit their entries at the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow site: https://www.samsung.com/ph/solve-for-tomorrow/

Jobstreet by SEEK named runner-up at the YouTube Works Awards Southeast Asia 2023

Leading online career platform Jobstreet by SEEK was announced as a runner-up at the recently concluded YouTube Works Awards Southeast Asia 2023 with its video campaign series “Hire Real Talent”.

Jobstreet by SEEK’s three-part video series is considered as one of the most innovative and effective campaigns on YouTube in the past year. It was nominated for “The All Action Hero,” a category that recognizes brands that maximize the action-oriented features of YouTube to effectively achieve its goals and encourage conversion and/or awareness.

YouTube had garnered over 750 applications from across Southeast Asia, with Jobstreet by SEEK being only one of the 12 Philippine brands that were announced as finalists such as Nestle, Lazada, and GCash to name a few.

The Hire Real Talent campaign aims to bare the realities of hiring candidates on social media while encouraging hirers to utilize legitimate job platforms to target the right candidates. Jobstreet by SEEK went with a satirical and witty take on the matter to show hirers that seeking talents through social media may not bring them the best-suited candidates which can result in an inefficient recruitment process. Social media lacks identity verification, making it hard to distinguish real from fake accounts. Users often lack professional profiles and work experience information unlike in job platforms, making it difficult for employers to assess candidates.

In the first video, the applicant being interviewed had a display photo of a newly set-up social media account—anonymous, lifeless, and unrecognizable. As for the second video, the applicant shown was unidentifiable due to their profile photo being a family portrait. Lastly, in the third video, the applicant is seen to have had work experience in a fictitious restaurant, making it difficult to determine factual information about them.

The annual YouTube Works Awards, in partnership with research firm Kantar, recognizes and celebrates campaigns to champion the brilliant minds behind them. This year, it made its comeback bigger and better by bringing the competition all throughout the Southeast Asian region, presenting new categories and a jury brimming with local experts and brilliant minds.

“Being named as having one of the most effective campaigns this year is an incredible honor as we’ve seen a lot of exceptional executions over the past period, so we are extremely grateful for the YouTube Works Awards for recognizing our campaign. We will continue on creating content that will not just get the interest but also educate our audience to remain the most trusted career and talent platform in the Philippines,” shares Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director, Philippines, Jobstreet by SEEK.
